PLACES

During two years of overseas service in Europe, my grandfather Staff Sergeant Jerry Pinkowski took many photos of the places he passed through while trying to keep up with General Patton's racing Third Army. Since the photo negatives were not discovered until after Grandpa's death, he was unable to tell me the stories behind these photos. Although the celluloid images he left behind are silent, they speak volumes. With the help of many generous people around the world, my scouring of the internet for information and what few clues I could glean from primary sources, I've managed to retrace many of his footsteps across a war-torn continent. Click on the images below for a short article about each location and in many cases more photos by Grandpa.
