My grandfather, Staff Sergeant Jerry Pinkowski of the 347th Ordnance Depot Company, took many photos of his comrades in arms during the war. On this page are many of those photos. Life in the Army during World War II was rough, and some of the photos show the strain, while others of him and his friends goofing off show a much lighter side. Either way, these images captured through the camera’s lens show the human side of Grandpa’s war experiences. Starting in 2006, First Sergeant William Seuberling of the 347th Ordnance Depot Company viewed many of these photos from Grandpa’s collection. Although Seuberling did not remember Grandpa, he did recognize many faces and I’ve decided to share these identifications with viewers in the photo captions. If you should recognize someone, please feel free to contact me.
