ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Scott Pinkowski was born in Joliet, Illinois in 1973, where he spent his first eight years growing up with his big sister, Melissa. He had a great interest in drawing, science and dinosaurs. During his childhood he somehow inherited his father's interest in World War II history, especially with World War II aviation. (Family lore says that his father's extensive World War II model airplane collection was obliterated by Scott at a tender age, so this might have something to do with it!) At the age of eight he and his family moved to Hillsboro Illinois where he graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1991, and decided to pursue an education in art and graphic design.
Moving on to Millikin University in Decatur, he graduated with his Bachelors Degree in 1995. It was during his second year at Millikin that his grandfather passed away leaving behind these photos, and it was several more years before any research was started on them. In an interesting side note, his senior art exhibition featured oil paintings based on some of the photos in this collection. After a few years getting his feet wet as a designer at his hometown newspaper, he moved to Centralia, Illinois to work as a graphic artist and production manager at a publishing company.
Scott lives in Centralia with his fiancée Tami and their two children of five and three years old. Besides researching his grandfather's photos, Scott enjoys playing guitar with Tami and spending time with his children. Scott is a charter member of the Men's Auxiliary VFW Post 2055 of Centralia.
